Jilaine had a fab time with host and HR thought leader Mark Franklin talking about how and why, with Bruce Croxon (Co-Founder of Lavalife and a star of CBC’s Dragon’s Den), she launched Sprigg, allowing easier, faster and metric-driven employee reviews

Last week, Shanna Landolt and Tim Baker were interviewed on the show about their career paths and the upcoming SocialHRCamp event led by Jeff Waldman.

Sadly Jeff was taken ill and so couldn’t make the show so our very own Marketing Manager, Bill Banham, did a cameo to plug this month’s hottest HR ticket.

It is with excitement that SocialHRCamp, partner of Sprigg and The HR Gazette, has initiated a philanthropic project with Free The Children, an international charity and educational partner.

The project will directly fund the building of a school in the Amazon region of Ecuador. Working in the communities of Mondaña and Bellavista, both in the Napo province, Free The Children is developing sustainable community partnerships to ensure children have safe and wonderful places to learn and so that communities are empowered to change their circumstances and lift themselves out of poverty.

“Free The Children is deeply appreciative of SocialHRCamp’s initiative to raise funds and awareness in support of building a school in the Amazon region of Ecuador. Their support will be instrumental in providing students with access to an education as well as a safe and wonderful space to learn. Free The Children believes that education is the foundation, which can break the cycle of poverty. With SocialHRCamp’s investment, we will be able to provide instrumental opportunities for elementary school students in these communities, creating a brighter hope for their future.”

Shellbie Wilson — Senior Manager Donor Engagement, Free The Children

60% of upcoming SocialHRCamp ticket revenue in Toronto (November 13, 2014) and Vancouver (tbd) will be donated to the project. SocialHRCamp will also initiate a campaign where the public can donate to the cause. Further, SocialHRCamp will work with crowd-funding platform and SocialHRCamp sponsor Tilt.com to launch and run this initiative. Stay tuned for the launch of these platforms.

Part of SocialHRCamp Founder, Jeff Waldman’s original vision for the Camp was to integrate a philanthropic component. Free The Children was a logical choice for Waldman, a father of 3 young boys living in North Toronto where education is a core value and easily accessible to Canadian children. Philanthropy has long been a major part of the Human Resources community, says Waldman. This project will increase the level of engagement with the broader HR Community, and continue the work to build the skills of Practitioners in social media and emerging HR/Recruitment technology adoption.

For more information about the fantastic work that Free The Children is currently doing in the Amazon click on the image below for up-to-date stories from the communities they work in. Updates are made every 4-6 weeks.

Well-known HR technology expert Jeff Waldman offered a flattering review of Sprigg’s performance management software platform today on his hugely popular Stratify website. Here it is:

Sprigg Talent Management Solutions – Simple, Intuitive, Mobile Friendly & Cloud-Based Talent Management Software

One of the core functions within human resources is performance management. The idea is relatively simple. HR possesses the expertise to support the organization; people managers, executives and employees to improve individual and collective performance. This is not a new concept at all. The big questions is, “have we as an HR profession figured out how to do this well”? As an HR practitioner with more than 13 years of direct HR experience working with a variety of small to large organizations I would say, “no”.

For many HR practitioners a typical performance management system is loaded with processes, documents, guidelines, rules, forms and anything else you can think of. This exists because of our desire to be fair and equitable, be legislatively compliant and reports. Ask yourself this question. Have these traditional systems and processes successfully boosted employee performance? The answer is clear, “N. O.” These systems are typically complex and focused on promoting the wrong behaviour, all misaligned with improving performance. Ideally they may make sense but practically they don’t.

Enter Sprigg Talent Management Systems

I have been following Sprigg Talent Management Solutions for a couple of years now and have been impressed with their platform, simply because it has a fantastic and easy-to-use interface, its set of core features are ones that HR actually needs (unlike other platforms that are laden with too many features that are not needed), is mobile friendly and incorporates social principles (including gaming).

When it comes to HR technology, the key things that make for good HR software are user experience (particularly onboarding and customization), mobile, integration and analytics. Sprigg Talent Management Solutions hits each one with flying colours.

Flexibility

The biggest observation of the Sprigg platform is its flexibility from a user experience perspective. The technology is well thought-out from the administration panel to goal setting to people manager tools. A fantastic feature is the social platform that enables employees to share status updated with one another. This one-stop-shop platform that can be used from a smartphone, tablet and laptop computer allows for huge flexibility in when, where and how the tool is used. Simply put the more user friendly it is the more it will be adopted and used on an ongoing basis.

At the End of the Day…

Software that meets the criteria mentioned above will always beat out its competition. More importantly, if the tool truly helps solves a REAL business challenge/problem then you know it’s a winner. Sprigg Talent Management Solutions does this. It’s a great piece of software that I believe really does help organizations improve employee performance.

Social HR Camp took place at Achievers HQ in Toronto on November 1st, and was so popular that #SHRC13 trended on Twitter!

The ‘unconference’ attracted over 100 HR and related professionals from Canada, USA and UK and was the largest event yet from Jeff Waldman, Salima Nathoo and their team of HR social media gurus and sponsors.

This was a fantastic event for HR professionals interested in HR technologies and social media. The quality of presentations and the enthusiasm from the audience was first rate.

Watch out for reports and findings to be released from SHRC and Sprigg’s partner, HRreview magazine, in the coming weeks.

Friend of Sprigg, Jeff Waldman offers insights into why it is just so important to attend the HR Tech Conference.

Within the HR and Recruiting space we are absolutely inundated with events — conferences, unconferences, workshops, seminars, webinars, virtual events and so on. Each event offers some kind of value that we in the community can realize by attending, some more so than others. The 16th Annual HR Technology Conference & Exposition is taking place in just a few days; October 7-9 in Las Vegas, and I will be attending for the first time.

I am absolutely stoked about it as every single possible HR technology platform will be there showing off their stuff and giving us the latest and greatest in HR tech. With all of the hype surrounding this event, I have asked myself one question. — “why is HR Tech important to attend”?

The event concept is simple — to bring together HR vendors and HR technology buyers. I am not sure what to call it but I can only imagine it’s going to feel like a high tech flea market… and this is 100% okay with me.

Technology is such a critical part of our lives today, whether personally or professionally. It keeps getting better and better, and this is a positive thing for us. For HR and Recruiting, the business world that we play in is global, and the same goes for talent. Technology will never EVER replace the power of face to face human connection, but it WILL enable organizations to gain competitive advantage if they leverage the right technology for their organizations. Just imagine if you are able to use technology that allows you to attract, hire, engage and develop talent better and more cost-effectively than your competitors? Over time you will likely have the best talent working for you.

The only way organizations can truly start leveraging technology is if they educate themselves first. This is where the HR Tech conference comes into play. It’s simply a massive education platform to the world of HR technology. By being there attending sessions, doing demo’s with vendors and networking with industry analysts, thought leaders and peers you are taking a huge step in this process.

This edition of HR Tech, the 16th edition is slated to be the largest ever. If you are attending, take advantage of every single opportunity that comes your way to learn about what’s out in the market for HR technology. And while you’re at it, bring some extra cash so you can take a break playing a few hands at the poker or blackjack tables. You never know, you might strike the jackpot!
